Hampton Roads Transit to Offer Free Rides on Election Day

Hampton Roads Transit will offer free rides on Election Day, allowing riders across the area to use its service without paying a fare that day.

The temporary fare waiver is useful to know for voters planning a trip to the polls, as well as commuters and other residents making Election Day travel plans.

Riders can factor the free service into their transportation plans without assuming the offer is limited to voting-related trips.

Newport News Opens Applications for Homeowner Housing Relief Grants

Newport News has launched the Resident First Housing Relief Grant Program, a $300,000 initiative to help homeowners facing financial strain. Applications are open from October 1 through December 31 and will be considered on a first-come, first-served basis.

To qualify, residents must own and live in a Newport News home, meet income requirements, and spend more than 30% of household income on housing costs.

Approved grants will not be paid directly to homeowners; the city will apply them as credits toward June real property tax balances. The program is intended to ease housing costs for eligible local households.

For program details, eligibility requirements, required documentation, and application options, visit the City of Newport News’ website.

I always go to Paradise Ocean Club for Labor Day. Nothing beats toes in the sand and fried shrimp baskets! Summer isn’t summer without it.

Joke Of The Day

Hampton Roads has a bridge-tunnel, which sounds like a very ambitious piece of infrastructure.

Apparently, the bridge and the tunnel both wanted the job, so Virginia made them share a shift.
